Our plane home wasn't until 10:40 Saturday night so we were able to keep our place for another half day. we decided to drive back to Lahaina to see if there were any boats or other last minute activities we could do.
We were able to book the America II, an America's Cup challenger in 1986.
We had a little lunch at the Pioneer Restaurant right by the wharf:
Then back to the ship. After taking off shoes, there was the obligatory photo op.
They said we would get wet on this ship and we sure did. Our side of the ship was tilted most of the time so those side ropes were in the water. At one point, our tilted benches had 8 inches of water to sit in and our ankles were under water. What fun, especially when we hit yet another wave!
I tried to get pictures before it got too rough.
Captain steering with foot:
Sorry about the noise on the little video at http://maryo.posterous.com/on-the-america-ii-racing-sailboat-out-of-laha - that's from the wind whipping around!
After the said, we headed back "home" to nap, do the last laundry, finish packing, then off to the airport for our 10:40 flight.
The first flight - to Phoenix - was really cramped. I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. Finally, about 8AM Phoenix time we arrived and I got to stretch my legs. We left there about 9AM and headed for BWI.
We arrived at BWI about 4:30PM eastern - about 12.5 hours of flying time with all the time zone changes! Finally got on a shuttle and got home.
Monday was spend sleeping and so was most of today. very sore muscles, too!
Hawaii was beautiful and a great place to be but I'd never go back, at least not for only 1 week. The getting there and back is just too much!
